French academic Clotilde Reiss returns to France after arrest in Iran

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a statement about the return of Clotilde Reiss to France after her arrest in Iran.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Commenting on the return of Clotilde Reiss to France, an FCO spokesperson said:

“The Foreign Office welcomes the news that Clotilde Reiss has returned to France after more than 10 months under house arrest in Iran. Clotilde Reiss had done nothing wrong and should never have been held. Observing a public demonstration and describing the experience to friends in an e-mail is not illegal in any country that believes in freedom and upholds the rule of law. We are delighted for Clotilde, her family and the French people that this long ordeal is now over.”
