NATO’s North Atlantic Council confirmed that Mr Jens Stoltenberg will succeed NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in October 2014.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Foreign Secretary William Hague said:

I welcome today’s announcement of Jens Stoltenberg as NATO’s next Secretary General.

Jens will take up his new role shortly after this year’s NATO summit in Wales. I look forward to working with him and other Allies to shape NATO’s future. Events in Ukraine remind us that NATO has a vital role in ensuring the collective security of all members of the alliance.
