Foreign Secretary William Hague said:
“We agreed that the Arab Spring presented a moment of huge opportunity for the region. We also committed to work closely together to support the people of the Middle East & North Africa as they seek to build more open societies based on the rule of law, with greater access to justice and economic opportunity, delivering more prosperous economies - in particular by fully implementing UNSCRs 1970 and 1973.
“The Secretary General welcomed the appointment of Mohammed Shokat as the new UK Special Representative to the OIC. We also discussed our intentions to broaden and strengthen the wider OIC/UK bilateral relationship in the political field, development aid, humanitarian assistance, science & technology, interfaith dialogue, and in combating intolerance and anti-Muslim discrimination and hatred. The Secretary General also noted that he looks forward to Baroness Warsi’s visit to the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Conference in Kazakhstan at the end of the month.”
