Foreign Secretary meets Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos

The Foreign Secretary today welcomed Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Santos to London, who is here on his first official visit to Britain.

Foreign Secretary William Hague and Foreign Minister Samuel Santos discussed Prosperity, Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, Human Rights, the EU’s Strategic Dialogue with Nicaragua, as well as global security.

During his visit, Foreign Secretary Santos also met, amongst others, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, FCO Minister of State, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Members of the All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPG) for Central America and Latin America. He will also attend events involving UK businesses.

Speaking today, Foreign Secretary William Hague said,

It was a pleasure to welcome Foreign Secretary Santos today. We had excellent and warm discussions, and look forward to strengthening the growing links between our two countries.

The UK has a strong interest in supporting Nicaragua’s development and prosperity. We want to deepen our political dialogue with the Government of Nicaragua, and forge a partnership in trade and investment.
