Foreign Secretary comments on elections in Taiwan

Following the re-election of Dr Ma Ying-jeou in Taiwan, Foreign Secretary William Hague gave a statement.

The Foreign Secretary said:

“The Presidential and legislative elections held in Taiwan today are testament to Taiwan’s thriving democracy, and I congratulate Dr Ma Ying-jeou on his re-election. I hope that the Chinese Government and Taiwan will continue their dialogue to resolve differences and find a peaceful solution to the Taiwan question, acceptable to the populations on both sides of the Strait.”
