Foreign Office Minister sends condolences following train crash in South Africa

Minister for Africa Henry Bellingham sent his condolences to the people of South Africa following a train collision in Soweto on 19 May that is reported to have injured more than 850 people.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Speaking on arrival in the Cote D’Ivoire, at the start of a 10 day visit to Africa, he said:

“I was saddened to hear of the train collision in Soweto on 19 May, which resulted in injuries to many local people. I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to those involved and their families. South Africa is a close friend of the UK and we wish all those involved a speedy recovery from this tragic event.”
