FCO Minister responds to rejected appeal of activists in Egypt

Hugh Robertson expresses concern that the appeal of the Egyptian activists Ahmed Maher, Ahmed Douma and Mohammed Adel has been rejected.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Mr Robertson said:

I am concerned that the appeal of the activists Ahmed Maher, Ahmed Douma and Mohammed Adel has been rejected condemning them to a three year jail sentence. The UK government places great importance on making progress on the political roadmap for a democratic transition which the Egyptian authorities committed to in July 2013. The freedom to protest peacefully is an integral part of achieving a successful transition to democracy in Egypt.
