Enstrom 280FX, G-OJBB: Anniversary Statement
Hard landing following loss of tail rotor drive, Rhobell Fawr, Dolgellau, Gwynedd, on 25 August 2021.
This statement provides an update on the AAIB investigation into an accident involving an Enstrom 280FX helicopter, G‑OJBB, near Dolgellau, Gwynedd, on 25 August 2021.
The helicopter suffered a loss of thrust from the tail rotor while hovering close to the ground near a mountain top, resulting in a loss of control and hard landing.
The AAIB investigation has focused on the tail rotor gearbox which shows internal damage that is consistent with a lack of lubrication.
The report is nearing completion at which time it will be published.
