The British Embassy Quito will again this year show its support for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal , an annual fundraising campaign to help British Armed Forces and their families.

From the end of October until Remembrance Day on 11th November 2013, the traditional poppy badges will be available in exchange for a donation at the British Embassy in Quito, the British Consulate in Guayaquil, British-Ecuadorean Chamber of Commerce and the British School Quito.

The Poppy Appeal began in 1921 and ever since has been a vital source of funding to the Royal British Legion’s work in providing financial advice, access to care and help in the home, bereavement support and many other services to former and current servicemen and women, and their families.

The poppies came into being from the John McCrae poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and the poppy badges are traditionally made by hand in the ‘Poppy Factory’ by disabled ex-servicemen and women.
