DWP appoints new Director General for Digital Transformation

Kevin Cunnington appointed as the new Director General for Digital Transformation.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Iain Duncan Smith, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, today (14 October 2013) announced the appointment of Mr Kevin Cunnington as the new Director General for Digital Transformation.

Kevin has led a variety of large scale, and global, digital transformation programmes, creating a range of new digital services in e-commerce, digital marketing, self-care and social media. These developments have been deployed across various platforms from the traditional desktop browser through to mobile applications. Kevin was previously the Global Head of Online for Vodafone Group and Interim Chief of Digital IT at Lebara, an international mobile service provider.

DWP Permanent Secretary, Robert Devereux, welcomed the appointment:

I am delighted to welcome Kevin Cunnington to the department. Kevin has a wealth of experience in transforming digital services and successfully delivering web and mobile services. These skills and experience will prove invaluable to the department.

The incoming Director General for Digital Transformation, Kevin Cunnington said:

The work of the DWP is incredibly important and the role of digital services is vital to delivering reform, improving the quality of services to the public, and saving the tax payer money through greater efficiency.

Mr Cunnington will start immediately.

Biography of Kevin Cunnington

Kevin’s early career was in IT consultancy working for PwC where he also authored PwC’s agile development methodology for expert and knowledge-based systems. He then joined Goldman Sachs where he held various technology roles over an 8 year period. In 2000 he moved to T-Mobile as Executive Vice President in their Product and Services Division before joining Refresh Mobile in 2005 as Founder, Chief Product and Technology Officer. He moved to Vodafone Group Limited in 2008 as their Global Head of online and has subsequently been the Interim Chief of Digital IT at Lebara.
