Drivers advised of overnight closures on the A1 in North Yorkshire

The A1 in North Yorkshire will be closed on Saturday 11 April, Saturday 18 April and Saturday the 25 of April northbound between junction 50 (Baldersby) and Scotch Corner and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. The northbound A1 will also be closed overnight between 26 and 30 April, as part of major work to upgrade part of the A1 to a three-lane motorway.

For the northbound closures, the A1 and A1(M) will be closed between junction 50 (Baldersby) and Scotch Corner (21 miles/34 kilometres). For southbound closures the A1 and A1(M) will be closed between Scotch Corner and junction 51 (Leeming) (11 miles/17 kilometres). Drivers are advised to add an extra 15 to 30 minutes to their journey time.

Saturday 11 April (8pm to 6am), full closure – to switch traffic management, undertake surveys and site clearance work.

Saturday 18 April (8pm to 6am), full closure – to carry out work on overhead cables and to switch traffic management to prepare the hard shoulder at Low Street to be used as an additional lane.

Saturday 25 April (8pm to 6am), full closure - for removal of overhead electricity cables.

26 April to 30 April (8pm to 6am) nightly, northbound only closure – for the installation of traffic management and crossover preparation works.

The closures have been carefully scheduled to minimise disruption to drivers and will be put in place when traffic flows are at their lowest. Additional closures for May are planned and will be confirmed nearer the time.
