Draft UN Security Council resolution on Iran

Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt responds to E3+3 agreement on a draft UN Security Council resolution on Iran.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said:

“Iran’s nuclear programme is a serious cause for concern. We remain committed to increasing international pressure on Iran to work with the international community and the IAEA.

“Today, the E3+3 has reached consensus on a draft UN Security Council Resolution, following Iran’s failure to respond to efforts to engage them in negotiation over the last year. This will be circulated to all members of the UN Security Council for further discussion.

“The resolution represents a continuation of the dual track strategy of pressure and engagement, and we continue to call upon Iran to address the international concerns about its nuclear programme.”
