A UK delegation headed by Minister for Europe David Lidington is to take part in an informal meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers, which takes place on 16 and 17 July near Almaty.

On the eve of the meeting Mr Lidington said:

“This beautiful city provides us with an excellent opportunity to discuss issues that are at the heart of the OSCE’s agenda…Not only Kyrgyzstan, but also more widely as ministers consider the OSCE’s role in preventing and resolving conflicts; conventional arms control and military confidence-building in the OSCE area; strengthening OSCE work in promoting human rights and democracy; and considering the new security threats our region faces.”

Mr Lidington also said that he was particularly pleased to visit Kazakhstan to reconfirm the strength of the bilateral relationship in such areas as business, energy, healthcare, education, agriculture and financial and legal services.
