Culture Secretary Reappoints Trustee Of The VisitEngland Board

Culture Secretary John Whittingdale has reappointed Sarah Stewart as Trustee of the VisitEngland Board for a second term of 12 months, from 30 May 2016.

Sarah Stewart is the Chief Executive of NewcastleGateshead Initiative, the destination marketing organisation responsible for inspiring people to visit and to live, learn, work and invest in and around NewcastleGateshead. Sarah graduated from Cambridge University in 1981 with a degree in history and law and spent her early career with Procter & Gamble (Brand Manager), Price Waterhouse (Partner) and Sage Group plc (Marketing Director). Prior to joining NewcastleGateshead Initiative in May 2010, she worked freelance in marketing and brand development for a wide range of national and international organisations including Greggs plc, Shell International, One North East and Newcastle Science City. A former Deputy Chair of both the International Centre for Life and Port of Tyne, Sarah continues to hold a number of non-executive positions with Arts Council North, Beamish Museum, Newcastle Cathedral, Newcastle University and Durham University Business School. Sarah was awarded an OBE in the 2016 New Year’s Honours for services to the economy of North East England.

Sarah holds no other public appointment.

In accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for defined political activity in the last five years to be made public. Sarah Stewart has declared no such political activity.
