Concern about Egyption Elections
The UK and the International community express concern about the Parliamentary elections in Egypt on 28 November and 5 December.
Speaking on behalf of EU Member States, EU High Representative Catherine Ashton expressed concern about the conduct of the elections, highlighting irregularities, the absence of independent monitoring, and limits to press freedom.
“I encourage the Egyptian authorities to respond to these concerns. The EU will continue to call on the Egyptian government to permit domestic and international monitors to observe future elections, and remains ready to offer assistance in that regard.”
