Civil/crime news: check your computer to keep working securely

Our security certificate and updating your browsers and operating systems.

Extra protection is being given to the network hosting important applications like LAA online following an upgrade to our security certificate.

This should not be a problem for the vast majority of people accessing our systems. But if you are running older versions of browsers and/or operating systems you may find that you have compatibility issues.

Windows XP

For example, Microsoft Windows XP pre-Service Pack 3 will not support the new security encryption.

If this applies to you then you should upgrade your operating system to Service Pack 3. You can do this on the web.

Browsers

You may also experience difficulties with certain browsers. If that is the case then try another browser or look at upgrading the one you are using.

Why are you making this change now?

This change is a global one and older certificates are no longer being issued. So, we have to upgrade.

What is the security certificate?

Our security certificate is renewed annually and was called SHA-1. We upgraded to SHA-2 (Secure Hash Algorithm 2).

The advantage of this upgrade for LAA and providers is that we can all benefit from the latest security measures.
