Chevening Alumni event hosted by British Ambassador

The British Embassy holds its first networking event of 2023, and highlights its commitment to the Chevening programme.

Following the traditional Chevening Alumni events in Ashgabat, Ambassador Lucia Wilde hosted over 20 alumni at her residence on 13th January 2023.

Ms Lucia Wilde thanked the special guests for being part of the event, which the Embassy proudly organises for Chevening alumni. Since 1998 more than 80 Turkmen students have received this scholarship award. Underlining her commitment to the Chevening programme, Ms Wilde stressed that postgraduate level study in the UK not only brings benefits to the recipients personally but also helps to further understand each other’s countries.

Mr Togan Oral, the Ambassador of Türkiye to Turkmenistan and Mr Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator in Ashgabat, shared Chevening experiences and benefits of becoming a member of this strong alumni network. Ambassador Lucia Wilde also presented each of the recently returned alumni with the customary certificates marking their year as Chevening scholars.

In early autumn 2022, the Chevening community in Ashgabat bid farewell to six Chevening finalists, including to those whose awards had to be deferred due to pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

The reception offered a networking opportunity for the new graduates and a chance to meet their predecessors – the well-established alumni are progressing in their career path.
