Change of Her Majesty’s Consul General to Hong Kong and Macao
Mr Andrew Heyn OBE has been appointed Her Majesty's Consul General to Hong Kong and Non-Resident Consul General to Macao.
He will succeed Ms Caroline Wilson CMG, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Heyn will take up his appointment during September 2016.
Mr Heyn joined the FCO in 1989 and served in Caracas, Lisbon and Dublin before his most recent overseas posting as Ambassador to Burma. He was in Rangoon during the dramatic opening up of the country and the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in 2010. After leaving Burma in 2013, he returned to a role at the heart of government in the Cabinet Office.
On his appointment, Andrew said:
I am very honoured to be given this opportunity to experience the extraordinary vitality of Hong Kong at first hand. The new Foreign Secretary has talked about creating a new identity for the UK abroad – a Global Britain which is open for business, committed to peace and security and a leading supporter of the international rules based system. Our relationship with Hong Kong will be a key part of this process with our long standing ties across so many different spheres.
Outside of work, Mr Heyn is a keen tennis player and fisherman. He will be accompanied by his wife, Jane, and his daughter Emma.
