CASI hosts info session for prospective Chevening applicants in Honiara
Students, young professionals and aspiring leaders interested in pursuing a fully funded master's degree attended the Chevening Scholarship info session.
Chevening Alumnus Veronica Maebiru-Mason presented on Chevening Scholarships to students at the Solomon Islands National University.
Chevening Alumni Solomon Islands (CASI), in partnership with the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), on Wednesday 2 September, hosted a public information session to help prospective applicants better understand the Chevening Scholarship programme and the opportunities it provides for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom.
Held at the SINU Lecture Theatre, Kukum Campus, the event brought together students, young professionals and aspiring leaders interested in pursuing a fully funded master’s degree in the UK through the Chevening Scholarship programme.
Participants received practical guidance on eligibility requirements, the application process, tips for preparing a strong application, and insights from Chevening alumni who shared their experiences of studying and living in the UK.
The programme aims to equip future leaders with world-class knowledge, professional networks and the skills needed to address challenges facing their communities and countries.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s international awards programme, supporting outstanding emerging leaders from around the world to undertake a one-year master’s degree in the UK. It is more than an academic award. It is an investment in people who have the ambition, leadership and commitment to contribute positively to their country and communities.
Chevening Alumni who contributed to answering questions from the audience at the event highlighted the importance of leadership, professional achievement and a commitment to making a positive contribution to Solomon Islands as key qualities sought in successful Chevening applicants.
Potential Chevening applicants were encouraged to begin preparing their applications early, thoroughly research their preferred courses, and clearly demonstrate how the knowledge and skills gained in the UK would contribute to the development of Solomon Islands.
The information session forms part of ongoing efforts by CASI and the British High Commission to raise awareness of educational opportunities available through Chevening and to support prospective applicants throughout the application process.
The event also highlighted the growing network of Chevening alumni in Solomon Islands and their contribution to national development across government, civil society, academia and the private sector.
Applications for the current Chevening Scholarship cycle are now open and will close on 6 October 2026.
