Over 40, 000 dollars was raised and this will be shared equally between the Starship Foundation, Save the Children, the Christchurch City Mission and Canterbury’s Stepping Stone Trust.

The rally saw cars, from a British assembled BMW bubble car to the latest Jaguar XF provided by Motorcorp, drive the 1600 kilometres through some of the wilder and more beautiful stretches of New Zealand’s highways.

The British High Commissioner Mrs Vicki Treadell says the money raised for the charities is just fantastic.

Every town we drove into, crowds of people turned out from the elderly to school kids and from petrol heads to lovers of fine British machinery .It was a rolling celebration of Britain’s auto industry past and present and I am grateful to the main dealers who also ensured that we had fantastic displays of current models from Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Landrover and Mini.

Over 7,000 dollars was raised alone by auctions in Wellington and Christchurch. These included cricket bats signed by the English cricket team currently on tour in New Zealand and two British Airways return tickets to London.
