Work to turn a derelict Bus Station in Whitehaven into a business hub for entrepreneurs and digital start-ups is taking shape.

Our head of community and development, Gary McKeating, recently toured the site and took the opportunity to dispel some myths about the project.

He said:

Some people think that the Bus Station is just another office for Sellafield workers, and that the building will be home to a pub. But the truth is so much more exciting than that.

The offices will be home to creative and digital businesses, not to Sellafield employees. A space where new businesses can set up their base and thrive.

Downstairs in the building will be The Peddler which will cater to people all day, whether you’re looking for somewhere to have breakfast, somewhere to hold a business meeting in the day, or looking for somewhere to have an evening meal.

It will be a great addition to what Whitehaven has to offer locals and visitors alike.

The Bus Station will open its doors in Spring 2021.

Funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Sellafield Ltd, the Bus Station is being delivered by BEC with support from Copeland Borough Council.

Local contractor Thomas Armstrong are the lead contractor on the project.
