British Embassy Mogadishu Hosts the King’s Birthday Party
British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, hosted his first King’s Birthday Party yesterday.
The British Embassy Mogadishu celebrated the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III on 19 November 2025, with a joyful evening that brought together Somali and British friends in recognition of strong and growing ties between the two countries.
The annual event showcased the UK’s enduring friendship with Somalia, featuring a vibrant mix of culture, connection, and collaboration. Guests included senior Somali Government representatives, civil society leaders, diplomatic partners, and members of the international community. His Excellency Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre also joined the celebration delivering remarks that highlighted the strength of UK-Somalia relations.
British Ambassador Charles King, hosting his first King’s Birthday Party in Somalia, said:
This is my first King’s Birthday event here, and I couldn’t think of a better way to mark it than in the company of Somali changemakers-young scholars, government officials, entrepreneurs and innovators who are shaping the Somalia of tomorrow.
The UK is proud to stand with Somalia as a steadfast partner. Whether through our support for education, health, economic development, or security, our partnership is rooted in trust, respect, and shared ambition.
And partnerships only thrive when they are personal. That’s why today we are celebrating the people, both UK and Somali, who work hard to make our relationship strong and successful.
The celebration drew inspiration from a traditional British country fair, featuring UK refreshments, including fish and chips, Somali dancers, and a London Black Cab photo booth. Both British and Somali traditions were on display.
A highlight of the celebration was the launch of the 2026 calendars sponsored by Hormuud, Whitestar, and Salaam Bank, showcasing striking photography selected through a nationwide competition. Each calendar captures scenes of daily life, creativity, and resilience from across Somalia, and was gifted to attendees as a symbol of shared pride and friendship.
Photos and highlights from the event will be shared across X, Instagram, and Facebook using the hashtag #KBPMogadishu.
