The United Kingdom welcomes the publication of the AU Commission of Inquiry report on South Sudan. This is a necessary step towards ensuring accountability, reconciliation and sustainable peace for the South Sudanese people.
The terrible suffering outlined in the Commission’s report demands action. Those responsible for committing serious violations of human rights law, war crimes and crimes against humanity throughout the conflict need to be held to account for their actions. The peace agreement signed in August provides the mechanisms to do this. We urge all parties to live up to their commitments as set out in the agreement. The UK stands ready to support.
