British Ambassador to the Philippines, Asif Ahmad is among the nominees for the British Muslim Awards under the category of Civil Servant of the Year.
The awards recognise the valuable contribution and achievement of British Muslims in various aspects of society including business, charity, sport, arts and culture, and public service. Asif’s nomination is a reflection of his dedication to the public service in a career which has included secondments to UKTI and Prime Minister’s Office, and seen him serve as British Ambassador to Thailand and now in the Philippines. Most recently, Asif and his team have done an outstanding job mobilising and delivering assistance to hundreds of thousands of people in the aftermath of the horrific typhoon that struck the country in November.
Speaking about his nomination, Asif commented:
British civil servants at home and abroad are motivated when the work we do has a positive impact. I am grateful to the sponsors of the British Muslim Awards for nominating me as the Civil Servant of the Year. I am sure all the other nominees can point to their great achievements and each of them deserve recognition.
As Britain’s representative as Ambassador to the Philippines, I believe that the nomination reflects the excellent work of the Embassy team that I have the privilege of leading. As we go about meeting the needs of British citizens, promote the UK’s prosperity and further our national interest, each day we can point to the strong impact we are making in this fast moving part of the world. The people of Britain responded to the world’s strongest ever typhoon that hit the Philippines in November with an overall contribution of over £140m in aid. One of most rewarding periods of my career was to be able to help mobilise and deliver urgent humanitarian relief to the victims who were left without food and shelter.
I hope that people from all parts of the UK will look at the achievements of everyone who was nominated for their work for a British Muslim Award and be inspired by their stories.
