British Ambassador statement on Armenian parliamentary elections

Ambassador Alexandra Cole welcomes OSCE/ODIHR preliminary findings and reaffirms UK commitment to Armenia's democratic development.

Statement by the British Ambassador to Armenia on the parliamentary elections

I welcome the preliminary findings of the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission following Armenia’s parliamentary elections held on 7 June 2026, as set out here: ODIHR preliminary findings to which the UK contributed observers alongside 41 other states.

OSCE/ODIHR observers noted that election day was orderly and professionally conducted, with voting largely proceeding smoothly across polling stations, while also identifying areas in which future electoral integrity can be further strengthened. I hope Armenia’s authorities will engage constructively with these recommendations.

I commend Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission for its work in administering the elections. The OSCE/ODIHR plays an important role in providing independent assessments of electoral processes.

The United Kingdom remains committed to supporting Armenia in strengthening its democratic resilience and institutions, including in response to challenges that may affect the integrity of democratic processes.

I look forward to working with Armenia’s new government to advance our Strategic Partnership, supporting regional stability, economic growth and democratic resilience
