British Ambassador presented prizes at the Marrakech Atlas Etape

Mr Clive Alderton attended the launch of the 2014 Marrakech Atlas Etape which took place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April 2014.

The British Ambassador to Morocco, Mr Clive Alderton, attended the launch of the 2014 Marrakech Atlas Etape, which took place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April. The Etape is an annual cycling challenge to raise funds for Education For All, a British NGO which helps young girls in remote areas to complete secondary education. His Excellency is Patron of Education for All.

During the Marrakech Atlas Etape hundreds of cycling enthusiasts participated in a 140 km ride from Marrakech to the foot of Oukaimeden and back again. Many of the cyclists cq,e all the way from the UK. There was a mix of amateur and professional cyclists.

British Ambassador to Morocco Mr. Clive Alderton said: “I am proud to be Patron of Education for All. Last year the charity enabled the first 7 girls ever from remote High Atlas regions to take the Baccalaureate exam. The Marrakech Atlas Etape combines a fantastic sporting challenge with the opportunity to raise funds to help even more girls complete their education. As Nelson Mandela said: Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. I look forward to presenting prizes to those who complete the Etape on Sunday afternoon.”
