Contractors for Highways England will be removing and replacing some of the columns on the bridge, and carrying out extensive concrete repairs to the column in the central reservation on the A162.

To carry out the work, the A162 will be closed in both directions at the junction and a short diversion will take drivers off the exit slip roads and then back on the entry slip roads at the roundabout.

Highways England project manager Tim Calvert said:

We understand that this will cause some disruption for motorists who use the A162 but it is necessary to enable this essential maintenance work to be carried out.

The project is expected to be completed in May 2016.
