The event involved a wide range of Bermudian authorities and representatives from the UK Overseas Territories of Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and the Turks & Caicos Islands who shared their experiences in handling communications in crisis situations, particularly in handling the demands of modern-day social media.

A representative from the Foreign & Commonwealth’s Media and Consular Team conducted the training which was funded from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s Overseas Territories Programme Fund.

The event also included a discussion on planning and crisis readiness in the Overseas Territories.

Governor John Rankin said “ Effective communications are a key element of crisis handling, getting information out to the public and fielding enquiries from those caught up in the crisis. This is even more important in these days of fast-moving modern social media. I am delighted that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office was able to fund the Workshop, which has provided an excellent opportunity to share best practice in Crisis Communications between participants from across the Overseas Territories and London.”
