The Coal Authority has been awarded the Royal Town Planning Institute’s Learning Partner Status. This is a mark of excellence of learning and development practices. It is only given to organisations who can demonstrate a commitment and track record of professional development of planners and planning staff.

To gain this award our Planning and Local Authority Liaison team submitted an application to the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) in September. This contained detailed evidence for learning and development activities.

The RTPI reviewed, scrutinised and analysed it and produced a report on their findings. Their report noted the Authority’s structured succession programme, which has been in place since 2008, as being a key feature of achieving the RTPI status.

RTPI Learning Partner status has a number of benefits, including helping to recruit and retain planning staff.
