Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan has welcomed the news that Cardiff will host one of the Ashes 2015 test matches.

Mrs Gillan, who is an avid cricket fan, says the news will be a big hit in Wales and will bring a welcome boost to the South Wales economy.

Mrs Gillan said:  “This is fantastic news and recognises the success in which Cardiff hosted the 2009 Ashes Test match.  Cardiff has hosted numerous major sporting events over the years and the return of the Ashes and the excitement that comes with it will be a big hit in Wales.  Its return will also be a great boost to the South Wales economy as thousands of cricketing fans descend on our capital city.  This is yet another opportunity for Wales to showcase what it has to offer and I look forward to seeing some of the world’s finest cricketing stars in action.”
