Kazakh-British Trade and Industry Council (KBTIC) meets in London

Development projects in Kazakhstan discussed by KBTIC and British investors at annual meeting.

18-th session of Kazakh-British Trade and Industry Council

The 18th session of Kazakh-British Trade and Industry Council took place in London on 16 October 2014.

It was chaired by Sir David Wootton, Lord Mayor of the City of London (2011 to 2012), and Mr Yerlan Sagadiyev, Deputy Minister of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan. This year the KBTIC annual session was first-ever held on Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) premises.

For the first time the Kazakh side brought and presented to the British investors the real projects which they are going to be realised in Kazakhstan.

Kazakh delegation

The official Kazakhstan delegation included representatives of:

  • Ministry of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan
  • National Bank of Kazakhstan
  • KAZNEX Invest National Agency
  • Astana-Expo National Company JSC
  • Baiterek Holding
  • Engineering Union of Kazakhstan
  • National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan

UK representatives

The UK-side was represented by:

  • UK Trade and Investment (UKTI)
  • Infrastructure UK
  • IGC Mining subgroup
  • Islamic Finance Working Group included speakers from:
    • The CityUK
    • Central Forum at the University of Cambridge
    • Shell Kazakhstan Development B.V.
    • Huntsworth, Cultural Innovations.

Discussions at the meetinig

The existing and future trade, economic and investment co-operation was discussed in the meeting. The particular focus was put on the cooperation in the following sectors:

  • energy
  • mining
  • engineering
  • Islamic finance
  • development of Almaty as regional financial centre
  • Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects development
  • development of co-operation around EXPO 2017 projects

The event was closed by KBTIC protocol signing ceremony. It was agreed that the next session will be held next year.

The Kazakh-British Trade and Industry Council meets annually to discuss trade and economic co-operation between the 2 countries. It includes representatives of both Government and businesses of the UK and Kazakhstan and has become and an effective platform to promote and develop bilateral commercial ties.
