The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am, Mondays to Sunday (no work will be carried out overnight on Sunday) to allow the work to be carried out safely and efficiently.

Highways England project manager, Kyle Maylard, said:

We need to carry out this resurfacing work to make sure people’s journeys remain smooth, safe and reliable. We’ll be carrying out the work overnight, at a time when the fewest people are using the road and we thank drivers for their patience.

During the overnight closures a clearly signed diversion route will be in place. Drivers will be diverted via the A1086 through Horden and Blackhall and the A179 before re-joining the A19 at the A19/A179 Sheraton interchange.

The work is planned to be completed by Friday 19 July.
