53rd Universal Periodic Review of human rights: UK Statement on Greece

UK Statement at Greece's Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Thank you Mr Vice-President.

The UK recognises Greece’s progress since the previous review, including efforts to combat racism and trafficking, strengthen protection for victims of gender-based violence, and improve support for unaccompanied children and other vulnerable groups.
We note Greece’s continued cooperation with international human rights mechanisms and encourage Greece to build on recent reforms to ensure the full enjoyment of human rights for all people within its jurisdiction.

We recommend that Greece:

By 2030, continues efforts to strengthen accessible, coordinated and victim-centred support for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

By the next UPR cycle, ensures migration legislation and practice adheres to all relevant national and European obligations relating to border management and asylum procedures, including human rights protections.

By the next report from the Council of Europe’s Committee on the Prevention of Torture, implements recommendations from the Committee’s 2026 report relating to detention conditions in prisons and police facilities.

Thank you.
