Responsibilities

The Lords Minister leads on:

  • Supporting regular & sustained engagement with Members of the House of Lords;

  • The department’s business in the House of Lords;

  • Part 4 of the Legacy Act 2023;

  • Providing support on constitutional matters relating to NI;

  • Community cohesion; and

  • Preparations for the 30th anniversary of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement.

She also has overall responsibility for the NIO’s parliamentary activity in the House of Lords.

Baroness Anderson of Stoke-on-Trent was appointed jointly as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Northern Ireland Office and Captain of The King’s Bodyguard of the Yeoman of the Guard (Lords Deputy Chief Whip) on 22 July 2026.

She was previously Parliamentary Secretary in the Cabinet Office between 3 March and 22 July 2026.

She was also Baroness in Waiting (Government Whip) between 11 July 2024 and 12 June 2026.
