Responsibilities

Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland:

The Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland is the UK Government Department representing Scotland. It acts as the custodian of the Scottish devolution settlement, it represents Scottish interests within the UK Government, and it advocates for the UK Government’s policies in Scotland.

The role of the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State is to support the Secretary of State for Scotland in fulfilling these duties.

Northern Ireland Office:

The Northern Ireland Office is responsible for overseeing the Northern Ireland devolution settlement and representing Northern Ireland interests at UK government level and UK government interests in Northern Ireland.

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State reports to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

  • Responsibilities are:
    • Strengthening the Union
    • City Deals and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund
    • Promotion of the economy
    • Relations with the business sector
    • Implementation of the EFEF Act
