The Crown Premises Fire Safety Inspectorate (CPFSI) enforces the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in government buildings, Parliament and other Crown premises, excluding Ministry of Defence buildings who have their own Inspectorate.
The work of the Crown Premises Fire Safety Inspectorate (CPFSI)
The CPFSI role is to:
- undertake risk-based inspections
- provide advice and guidance on fire safety
- investigate fire safety failures following fires and injuries
- respond to consultations on proposed building work
- share information with stakeholder to promote consistency and reduce risk
- take enforcement action in accordance with the Regulators’ Code and follow the principles of good enforcement set out in the
Peter Holland, CBE is the Chief Inspector.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) fire safety guidance
All government and Crown owned, or occupied buildings must ensure that all fire and life safety systems e.g. fire alarms, continue to be maintained in efficient working order and good repair.
Those staff or contractors responsible for the repair and maintenance of fire safety systems, must be considered as key workers.
If you are concerned about fire safety in your building(s) during coronavirus, you should contact your fire risk assessor to undertake a review of your fire risk assessment. This should confirm that the existing fire safety measures will still ensure the safety of those working in or occupying the premises. It may be necessary to undertake this review remotely.
Upon returning to business as usual, you must undertake a comprehensive review of fire safety in all your building(s) including the fire risk assessment and the maintenance arrangements.
Inspections will be carried out by CPFSI in accordance with ourfor inspecting safely in premises in which there are no persons currently self-isolating or displaying active symptoms of coronavirus.
