Coronavirus (COVID-19) fire safety guidance

All government and Crown owned, or occupied buildings must ensure that all fire and life safety systems e.g. fire alarms, continue to be maintained in efficient working order and good repair.

Those staff or contractors responsible for the repair and maintenance of fire safety systems, must be considered as key workers.

If you are concerned about fire safety in your building(s) during coronavirus, you should contact your fire risk assessor to undertake a review of your fire risk assessment. This should confirm that the existing fire safety measures will still ensure the safety of those working in or occupying the premises. It may be necessary to undertake this review remotely.

Upon returning to business as usual, you must undertake a comprehensive review of fire safety in all your building(s) including the fire risk assessment and the maintenance arrangements.

Inspections will be carried out by CPFSI in accordance with our generic risk assessment (PDF, 361KB, 20 pages) for inspecting safely in premises in which there are no persons currently self-isolating or displaying active symptoms of coronavirus.
