Consultation description

We are consulting on new regulations that will enforce directly applicable European Union (EU) obligations, to encourage consumers to purchase tyres that will reduce the environmental impact of motoring through reduced fuel consumption and noise.

The chosen approach to enforcing these requirements is to:

  • appoint a market surveillance authority
  • introduce the minimum legislation necessary to support the enforcement of tyre labelling using a risk-based approach

to ensure that monitoring and enforcement will impose a minimal burden on business, while meeting compliance.

New requirements for consumer labelling of tyres came into effect by means of EU regulation from November 2012.
