Consultation description

We’re consulting on a proposal to make mainstream free schools ‘recoupable’ from the first year they open.

Local authorities receive funding from DfE based on the total number of pupils in the area. Recoupment is where DfE takes back funding for pupils in academies and free schools, as DfE funds these schools directly.
