Establishing a Development Corporation in Greater Cambridge
Applies to England
Consultation description
Greater Cambridge is one of Britain’s most important engines of growth, home to world-class research institutions and innovation-led ecosystems in technology, advanced manufacturing, and life sciences.
However, despite its global significance, Greater Cambridge faces critical constraints that are preventing it from realising its full potential as a place to live and work. These challenges are not new, and local institutions have worked hard to address them over many years.
The government believes the creation of a new Urban Development Corporation in Greater Cambridge would enable a transformational long-term approach to delivering high-quality sustainable growth. Working in partnership with local councils and communities, it would enable an infrastructure - first approach to delivering large strategic sites, for the benefit of both existing and new communities alike.
It is important that local people and businesses have an opportunity to express their opinions on the proposal to create the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation.
The consultation invites views on the government’s approach, including its proposed objectives, boundary, powers and approach to integrating local democratic representation.
