Detail of outcome

These are the government’s responses to the consultation on mandating electrical safety inspection and testing in social homes and the call for evidence on requirements for owner-occupier leasehold properties in social housing blocks.

The government is committed to working in partnership with social housing providers and tenants to ensure that all tenants live in safe, warm and decent homes, and to ensure that new homes can be built to house those in need of a safe and secure home.

We are therefore introducing mandatory electrical safety checks into the social rented sector to elevate safety standards and bring further alignment between the social rented sector and the private rented sector, where these regulations already exist.
