Detail of outcome

The government has considered responses to the consultation and intends to proceed with the proposal to introduce the improvements to the methodology for calculating construction price and cost indices.

We will be publishing more detailed methodological guidance on the new input cost indices and output price indices and will publish indices based on the new methodology from December 2014.

Summary

We’re asking for views on how construction price and cost indices should be calculated and the length of backseries that should be provided.

Consultation description

We want to know users’ views on the proposed methodologies:

• for input cost indices and their conversion to output price indices
• the choice of a market indicator
• the length of the published back series and how far back it is incorporated into ONS statistics on construction and gross capital formation
