Detail of outcome

Having considered the responses to this consultation, we are directing the Regulator to introduce a new Competence and Conduct Standard for social housing staff.

The standard will come into force in October 2026, with a transition period before all relevant staff must have or be working towards an appropriate qualification.

A new policy statement and direction to the Regulator have been published alongside the government response to the consultation.

Consultation description

The government is consulting on its proposals to introduce a new, regulatory standard relating to the competence and conduct of social housing staff. This standard will require senior managers and executives to have, or be working towards, a relevant qualification.
