Consultation description
ONS publishes annual statistics on civil partnerships formed and dissolved in the United Kingdom (UK). The release has previously been published around 7-10 months after the end of the reference period (July - October time). ONS produces figures for England and Wales and compiles UK figures using data provided by Scotland and Northern Ireland. To ensure the publication of timely final figures, ONS is proposing to change the annual release to provide figures for England and Wales only.
Consideration also needs to be given to the content of future civil partnership releases since there could potentially be a significant reduction in the number of civil partnership formations and dissolutions in England and Wales following the introduction of marriages of same sex couples from March 2014.
ONS is also interested to find out whether there is sufficient demand for detailed anonymised datasets for civil partnership formations and dissolutions for the period 2005-2013.
