Detail of outcome

This publication sets out the government’s response to the Better Workplace Pensions consultation on draft regulations.

The final draft Occupational Pension Schemes (Charges and Governance) Regulations 2015 were laid before Parliament for approval on 4 February.

We published guidance on the charge cap for trustees and managers of occupational schemes in support of these regulations on 2 March 2015.

Consultation description

This consultation seeks views on the Occupational Pension Schemes (Charges and Governance) Regulations 2015. These introduce measures that will protect members of workplace pension schemes through:

  • improved governance standards
  • addressing high charges that can result in poor pension returns

After we have considered responses to the consultation we intend to lay regulations in Parliament for approval early in 2015.

The consultation is aimed at:

  • those involved in designing and running pension schemes
  • pension industry professionals and advisers
  • pension scheme members
  • consumer groups
  • members’ representative organisations
  • anyone with an interest in pensions

The consultation document also provides the government’s response to a consultation included in Better workplace pensions: further measures for savers published in March 2014. That consultation sought views on the governance and the transparency of costs and charges in workplace pension schemes.
