Sport Satellite Account: Employment and GVA estimates
This page brings together Sport Satellite Account estimates for Employment and GVA up to 2024.
These estimates have been published as part of the DCMS Economic Estimates.
The estimates are based on proportions of industries directly attributable to sport, as calculated in the Sport Satellite Account (SSA) 2024 (for 2021). This allows us to estimate the economic contribution of the wider sport sector. Sport sector definitions can be found in the DCMS Economic Estimates definitions.

These estimates are designated as official statistics in development. This is because the methodology is new, and we welcome feedback to evidence@dcms.gov.uk. Additionally, DCMS employment estimates are based on the Annual Population Survey, which is currently designated as official statistics in development due to ongoing challenges with response rates, response levels and weighting. We will review this designation before the next update to these estimates, in winter 2026/27.
Headline findings:
Estimates for 2024 show that:
- provisionally, the wider sport sector directly contributed £63.2 billion to the UK economy
- there were 1.3 million filled jobs in the wider sport sector
