What is a sandbox?
A sandbox provides an opportunity for businesses developing innovative products to engage directly with regulators and discuss regulatory questions at an early stage of development.
Through a sandbox, businesses can explore how existing regulatory requirements may apply to their product, discuss approaches to generating evidence, and identify potential challenges before placing products on the market.
The programme is intended to support businesses bringing innovative products to market, while helping OPSS gain insight into emerging technologies and the regulatory challenges associated with innovation.

Cosmetics Sandbox: Bioengineered Ingredients
The Cosmetics Sandbox: Bioengineered Ingredients is the first sandbox in this programme.
It is open to businesses developing innovative cosmetic ingredients using bioengineering approaches, such as precision fermentation, synthetic biology and cell culture technologies.
Selected businesses will have the opportunity to engage directly with OPSS teams to discuss regulatory considerations and support the development and commercialisation of innovative ingredients.
