Detection and determination of food allergens: a research project

This research project aims to develop improved analytical methods of food allergens and interpretation of results.

This project develops and builds capability in the detection and determination of major allergens in foods to ensure the Government Chemist can carry out its statutory advisory function and perform analysis of referee and supplementary expert opinions samples.

The project develops and maintains awareness of emerging technologies, specifically polymerase chain reaction (PCR) DNA techniques and mass spectrometry-based identification and confirmation techniques.

This research project runs from 2011 to 2014.
