No 1 Aeronautical Information Documents Unit

No 1 AIDU provides aeronautical information products and services to UK defence.

No 1 Aeronautical Information Documents Unit (No 1 AIDU) has a mission to provide timely, relevant and accurate aeronautical information in support of defence objectives. As part of the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence, No 1 AIDU compiles and distributes Aeronautical Information to all MOD aviation assets as well as PAG and allies worldwide.

We work to the Aeronautical Information Regulation and Control (AIRAC) cycle, an internationally mandated schedule that ensures the most up to date information is procured and compiled for front line aircrew. Data is ingested from worldwide sources, compiled into products in easy-to-read formats and then prepared for external printing. Increasingly, Aeronautical Information is required digitally so No 1 AIDU compiles data formats and raster images of our products for specific uses. Around 1 million products per annum are printed externally and distributed to customers. Concurrently, the complete digital product set is available digitally through our online digital distribution service MilFlip.

Since 1999 the unit has continually held a certificate of excellence from the British Standards Institute for compliance with EN ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, currently the 2015 standard. In addition, No 1 AIDU has met the requirements of ED76A accreditation; the European Directive governing all electronically gathered and produced aeronautical data.
