£23 million for Rutland and Melton (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£23 million from the Levelling Up Fund has been awarded to Rutland County Council and Melton Borough Council to support a variety of projects in the area.

Rutland Memorial Hospital

A new digital innovation facility and ‘Mobi-Hub’ will be developed at the Rutland Memorial Hospital site. The new innovation facility will provide:

  • a Continuous Professional Development Centre for clinicians
  • lab and assembly space for the development of clinical trials
  • a training base for students from local universities

Not only supporting the increase of learning and new skills, the Mobi-Hub will be based at the hospital and will better link people to work, services and education in the Rutland and Melton areas. The Mobi-Hub will create, community focussed, demand driven travel in the area.

A new visitor attraction

A digital, mobile visitor experience will be created for people to view two unique treasures in the area:

Funding will allow the council to create touring facilities, storage and virtual models of these heritage assets.

The Stockyard

The Stockyard site in Melton Mowbray will be developed with:

  • new food and drinks outlets for people to enjoy local produce
  • a new multifunctional events space
  • a support service for local businesses to develop and grow

Upgrades to Melton Theatre

The Theatre on the Melton Campus of SMB College will be upgraded and made more accessible. Funding will ensure that the theatre can:

  • host a more regular calendar of events
  • attract larger scale performances

The package of projects will boost the local economy and help Oakham and Melton realise their true potential.
