Dual marking vehicles under the GB type-approval scheme

Summary

Understanding the barriers to dual marking GB scheme approved vehicles and how these barriers may be reduced or removed.

Call for evidence description

Motor vehicles must be approved before sale to demonstrate they meet the relevant environmental, safety and security requirements.

Vehicles must be approved both in GB and the EU to be sold UK wide. This is due to the Windsor Framework which applies EU vehicle approval regulations in Northern Ireland (NI).

We are aware that some manufacturers are choosing not to mark vehicles approved under both schemes with the EU approval number, preventing their sale in NI.

We want to understand why this is happening and what can be done to ensure all vehicles sold in the UK are dual marked.
